Answering: Why Does My Sew In Itch At Night?

For individuals who use hair extensions, the allure of a sew in weave is undeniable.  It has become very popular nowadays.

However,  a common concern that plagues weave wearers, especially at night, is the persistent itchiness that disrupts their sleep.

If you are somebody who sufferings from these issue. In this blog, we will explain the reason behind this itching in sew in weave and as well as will explore some effective strategies to alleviate this discomfort.

So, let’s begin! 

1. Reason behind Itching At Night

1.1 Tight Installation

One of the most common reasons behind nighttime sew in itch is tight installation of the sew in weave. To put it simply, you must have applied it too tightly, which can lead to tension on the scalp. This tension will result in discomfort and itchiness. 

That’s why, it is always crucial to communicate with your stylist about the level of tightness you prefer. Don’t install it too tightly, you have to strike a balance between installation and your comfort.

1.2 Buildup of Product

Another reason for itching is product buildup. accumulation of products such as creams and gels on your scalp can also cause itching at night.

To handle this problem, make sure to regularly shampoo and condition your hair. This will help prevent product buildup on your scalp. All in all, you need to maintain a healthier scalp. 

1.3 Materials Sensitivity

Some people have sensitive skin because of this they may experience itching at night in their sew in. That’s why make sure to purchase  high quality hair extensions, low quality ones can easily cause allergic reactions. 

If you have material sensitivity then opting for high quality  hypoallergenic extensions is best for you. 

1.4 Hygiene

Hygiene is the most common reason for itching at night in sew in.

To avoid this issue, you just ensure the basic hair hygiene. If you don’t, buildup will occur. which in turn you will have an ton of accumulation of debris and oil on your scalp.

So, simply shampoo your hair at least twice a week. Also, to keep your hair in healthy balance, use sulfate-free shampoo.

2. How to Alleviate Your Nighttime Itch in Sew In? 

Here are some solutions that will help alleviate your discomfort.

2.1 Proper Care before the installation

As mentioned above, Hygiene is the most common reason for itching. To prevent this issue, you need to properly shampoo and condition your hair before installation, this helps in preventing the buildup of oils and creams. 

2.2 Using Soothing Oil

Another option is to use a soothing oil. Here is how you can use one. You need to create a soothing oil mixture by mixing a few drops of tea tree and a carrier oil like coconut or olive. In case you don’t have tea tree oil in your hand then you can use argan oil too.

But, we recommend using tea tree oil. It is known for its antibacterial properties, and  offers a refreshing sensation on your scalp. Once you have made this mixture, just apply it to your scalp. You will find relief in itchiness. 

2.3 Using Dry Shampoo

In case you need a quick solution then you can use a dry shampoo. Dry shampoo contains formulas that can absorb excess oil and remove product buildup to provide temporary relief from itchiness. 

2.4 Use Apple Cider Vinegar 

Alright, next up is using the Apple Cider vinegar. While you may not believe it, Its is a very popular solution with ton of benefits.

Here is how you can use this. You wanna begin by dilute Apple cider vinegar in water before applying it to your scalp. Leave it for a few minutes before rinsing it off. 

Apple Cider vinegar has natural antifungal and antibacterial properties that help alleviate your itch.

3. Additional Tips

3.1 Proper Hydration

Sustaining a healthy scalp greatly depends on maintaining adequate moisture. So, all you wanna do is to ensure that you are drinking adequate water. not only it is essential for maintaining good scalp; it also benefits your health.

3.2 Avoid Scratching Your Scalp

Don’t scratch your scalp, as it can worsen the itchiness and can damage your sew in. To prevent this, consider gentle patting or massage. 

3.3 Avoid Products

Avoid using heavy weight products on your hair, as it can lead to product buildup which will cause itchiness. Instead of heavyweight, consider using lightweight products for styling. Light weight products won’t clog your hair follicles.

To sum up, there are many causes of itchiness at night in sew in weave such as hygiene, product buildup, and to alleviate this problem, you need to follow the tips mentioned above. Remember to stay hydrated too.
