Sewing Tales has seen any number of products, tips, tricks, and tools related to sewing, but the latest one took us by surprise – an Azure-winged magpie helping with the stitching! Yes, you read that right. Which I guess eliminates the need for a sewing machine. How about a bird instead, who is willing to help you stitch?

In the evidently viral video shared by @Nature is Amazing on X.com, this beautiful bird doesn’t hesitate to say yes to some sewing action. It gently tugs at the cloth as if it were a professional seamstress who has had years of practice in this field and is eager to explore making a business out of stitching quilts. And honestly, who is able to argue with a bird that can do two or more things at the same time better than some of us on a Monday morning?

Who needs a sewing machine when you have a Azure winged magpie bird as your stitching sidekick? 😄 pic.twitter.com/JSr26ipI4U

The Unexpected Helper

Let us try to analyze the situation: imagine the following: you have a lot of fabric, a couple of spools, a few needles, and a large tea cup for the next sewing adventure. Out of the blue, an Azure-winged magpie rushes in, shakes its wings, and offers help. There is confusion at first, but this particular bird is not here to watch.

They’re elaborate sewing master that can easily handle hems, seams, and small aunty embroideries as well.

Do not bother about your needle penetrating the given thread and losing discipline because this little bird is a professional at this task. In fact, members of the Stitchy team believe that this little tool can now replace the classic needle threader in its function and will become an essential tool in the sewing basket. First of all, it doesn’t have any complicated operating manuals (only instructions and a few sunflower seeds).

Bird Up

One of the inquiring faces that this majority males parade contains is: in case if by some whim this bird gets transformed into any business of sewing, in what lessons it’s best intended.

Quite Fast Sewing: There are numerous sewing machines with astounding ‘stitches per minute,’ however an Azure-winged magpie might as well give them a challenge as she skillfully nibbles through fabrics in record time.

There Is No Electricity Here: Bring in the solar powered devices! With no electricity other than basic motivation of a bird and the promise of tasty treat, this green helper works quite well.

Built-in Snipping Function: Why take the bother of looking for sewing scissors when your winged friend possesses the talent of crude sharp beak’s trimming of extra threads.

A New Trend in Sewing?

No, we are not saying you should look for a new friend in your pet bird just by stalking him to see how useful he or she is in the tactical reserve as if it is not worthwhile, but it does pose a very interesting question: which other sewing inventions can be borrowed from the natural world? Consider how some spider silk could be incorporated into lace to enhance it – or why not recruit even a few ants to help you clean down the extra threads that you managed to scatter everywhere.

The Shock Of The ‘Sew’

Let us be serious, in this last video clip we have seen that a part of the joy in sewing can sometimes also be found in the least likely of situations – that of a stitch that one tries to place perfectly, or a quick movement made by an over-enthusiastic bird attempting to help its owner with a new piece. Sure, this is not going to dethrone the reliability of our sewing machine but perhaps this is a good way to think that the one who creates a piece of work is not left alone in doing so, even with the environment.

And so, next time when you happen to be engrossed in a particular sewing project, you will not be astonished if you happen to look outside the window only to find a bird gazing. Who knows? Maybe they’ve been waiting for their moment in the sun as your sewing assistant.
