Here are four common methods that we used, adapt them to your preference.:

3.1 Method 1 (The 2-Step Method )

The method is known as the 2-step method. It is a time tested method known for securing the elastic and fabric in place with an initial line of stitching.

First of all, you wanna start by placing your fabric with the wrong sides together with FOE. Here you wanna make sure to align the raw edge of the fabric with the center crease line.

Then comes the stitch part! You are going to use stitching in place using a narrow zigzag stitch or a 3-step zigzag stitch.

Then just trim away the excess fabric in the seam allowance and move on, simply fold over the top section of FOE and stitch in place using a zigzag stitch.

3.2 Method 2 (Single Line Stitching Method )

If you are looking for something more neat, then this method is for you. In It you can create an enclosed edge with a single line of stitching.

First of all, to begin to place your fabric with the wrong sides together with FOE..Nextup, line up the raw edge of your fabric with the center crease line. Once satisfied you wanna pin it in place.

Then, Fold over the top section of FOE carefully! Now,  pin them in  place too. You wanna go for a sandwich look, the fabric should be between the two layers of FOE.

Okay all that is left now is to stitch it in place, here you wanna use a narrow zigzag or 3-step zigzag stitch, whichever suit you better.

3.3 Method 3 (The 2 Part With Removable Basting Stitch )

Last but not the least is the removable basting stitch method.

First of all, you begin by placing your fabric with the wrong sides together with FOE. Make  its aligning the raw edge with the center crease line. Now, just hand stitch or baste in place by using long and fairly loose stitches.

Protip here, Only secure with a knot at one end. You’re gonna need this for easy removal later on.

Now to finish it, first fold over the top section of FOE. Just like the method above you wanna create a sandwich into the fabric that goes between the two layers of FOE.

Then simply, stitch it in place using a narrow zigzag or 3-step zigzag stitch. Once done, you want to flip over the elastic, then without wasting time gently pull out the basting stitch.

You can use a seam ripper or small scissors to remove it however we would suggest not to do unless necessary..
